Apple Mighty Mouse

About the mouse

The Mighty Mouse is made of white plastic and has a recessed Apple logo on the mouse’s face. The mouse has four functional “buttons”: a left capacitive sensor, a right capacitive sensor, a track ball with a pressure sensor and side squeeze sensors. The track ball enables users to scroll a page or document in every direction by rolling the ball in the desired direction. Two of the above-mentioned inputs are not physical buttons. Rather, the touch-sensitive topshell (mentioned below) and the pressure sensing trackball allow the mouse to detect which side is being touched or whether the trackball is being held in.

Currently Mac OS X is the only operating system that fully supports the mouse. When used with Mac OS X the sensors can be set to launch applications or trigger features of the Apple operating system, such as Dashboard and Expos. If not used with Mac OS X, the mouse behaves as a four “button” mouse with a vertical and horizontal scroll wheel. There are third-party drivers (XMouse, AppleM) that provide more functions to users of other platforms such as Windows.

The Mighty Mouse does not report whether the right and left sensor is activated simultaneously. In fact, it reports a right-click only when there is no finger contact on the left side of the mouse. This means that the Mighty Mouse cannot support mouse chording, used by CAD software, games, and other applications where multiple functions are mapped to the mouse.

Versions and sell dates

The wireless Mighty Mouse

On August 2, 2005, Apple introduced Mighty Mouse, at the suggested retail price of US.

On 12 October 2005, Apple began shipping a Mighty Mouse with every iMac, and on 19 October 2005, with the PowerMac G5 line as well. The user has a choice to upgrade to an Apple Wireless and Apple Wireless Mouse.

On 25 July 2006, Apple released a wireless Mighty Mouse which uses Bluetooth 2.0. The new version uses two AA batteries, but can run on a single AA to reduce weight. Wireless Mighty Mouse was priced at .

On August 7, 2007, Apple slightly updated the Mighty Mouse, changing the color of the squeeze areas to white. As of September 2009, the wired version of the Mighty Mouse costs , while the wireless version costs .

On October 20, 2009, Apple was forced to rename the Mighty Mouse the Apple Mouse due to legal issues regarding the name.

On the same day, Apple announced and released a completely new mouse called the Apple Magic Mouse, built with an aluminum base with a multitouch panel. Like the trackpads on the Macbooks, this new version also introduced gestures. This version uses two AA batteries and will be priced at .

The model number of the old version of the Mighty Mouse is MA272LL/A, and the new Mighty Mouse’s model number is MB111LL/A.

Technical features

Touch-sensitive top shell

360 degree enabled clickable track ball

Force-sensing side “squeeze” areas

Optical (LED) tracking in wired version

Laser tracking in wireless version

Compatible with Macintosh and Windows PCs (wireless version is Mac-only)

Programmable functions for the four “buttons”

Auditory feedback with built-in speaker

Compatible also with Linux

Criticism

Although the Mighty Mouse can sense both right and left clicks it is not possible to press both sensors simultaneously. The user must learn to lift the left finger off the sensor surface before attempting a right-mouse click.

The scroll ball will eventually become clogged with dirt and require cleaning. While there are methods to clean the ball without dismantling the mouse some users have complained that the Mighty Mouse is difficult to clean because the scroll ball mechanism is hard to take apart.

Name

Prior to launching the device, Apple received a license to the name “Mighty Mouse” from Viacom, and subsequently CBS Operations, as owner of the Mighty Mouse cartoon series, the title having been registered in the U.S. as a trademark with respect to various merchandise (such as T-shirts and multivitamins) associated with the character. However, the trademark did not cover peripherals, and CBS would not apply to trademark the term in the U.S. with respect to mice until mid-2007.

On May 21, 2008 it was announced that Man & Machine Inc., a supplier of keyboards and mice to laboratories and hospitals, had sued Apple Inc. for trademark infringement over its use of the name Mighty Mouse. Man & Machine Inc. had four registered or pending trademarks on various computer pointing related technologies, including “Cool Mouse”, “Really Cool”, and “Man and Machine and Design”. The particular Mighty Mouse trademark in dispute was first filed by Man & Machine Inc., on December 18, 2007 with the description “Computer cursor control devices, namely, computer mice” after CBS’s filing, but claiming first use in 2004, before the introduction of the Apple device.

Following opposition proceedings on both sides against the other, CBS subsequently withdrew its application, allowing Man & Machine to register the U.S. trademark for computer mice. As a result, Apple stopped selling mice under the “Mighty Mouse” name on October 20, 2009, when it introduced the wireless Magic Mouse and renamed the existing wired mouse the “Apple Mouse”.

Incidentally, CBS was successful in registering “Mighty Mouse” as a trademark for computer mice in some other countries, including Canada, although Apple nevertheless chose to change its product name internationally.

Apple Pro Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz, Glossy Widescreen

The fastest, most powerful MacBook Pro ever with Aluminum unibody enclosure, advanced longer-lasting battery, brilliant LED-backlit display, advance keyboard and spacious trackpad.

The fastest, most powerful MacBook Pro ever –
Aluminum unibody enclosure, advanced longer-lasting battery, brilliant LED-backlit display. MacBook Pro has been precision engineered down to the smallest detail.Carved from a single block of aluminum, the MacBook Pro is a true engineering achievement. Its patented unibody enclosure is the product of precise machining. From the thumbscoop to the now-you-see-it-now-you-don’t sleep indicator, no detail is unaccounted for. The end result is a notebook that’s not only breakthrough, but thin, light, polished, and refined. The unibody also makes MacBook Pro more durable than ever. So you can throw it in your briefcase or messenger bag and pull it out at an airport, at school, at the office, or on location without a second thought.

Advance Keyboard -
The rigid aluminum keyboard webbing has been cut precisely to hold the keys. And the keys are curved to perfectly fit fingers. The result? Pure typing bliss. The keyboard is also illuminated, so when you’re in low-light settings, such as airplanes or conference rooms, you can always see what you’re typing.

It all just clicks -
The first thing you might notice — or not notice — is the button. The entire trackpad is the button, so you can click anywhere. Without a separate button, the spacious trackpad gives your hands plenty of room to move on the large, silky glass surface. Use two fingers to scroll up and down a page. Pinch to zoom in and out. Rotate an image with your fingertips. Swipe with three fingers to flip through your photo libraries. Swipe with four fingers to show your desktop, view all open windows, or switch applications. If you’re coming from a right-click world, you can right-click with two fingers or configure a right-click area on the trackpad. The more you use the Multi-Touch trackpad, the more you’ll wonder what you ever did without it.

Will You Buy 11.6″ MacBook Air Netbook? a review of Macbook by :

Will You Buy 11.6″ Air Netbook?

According to the news on the 21st of October, Apple released two new MacBook Air (11.6″ and 13.3″). Their sale prices are from 9, which is still a huge spending for average users. Will you buy new MacBook Air Netbooks? I assume that many of us would like to purchase a cheaper type from retail/wholesale electronics suppliers.

Netbooks boast in popularity as people had tight budget to spend on a . They like netbooks’ budget-friendliness, portability and complete computing functions. All these features have translated into the netbook carving out quite a chunk for itself in the industry. New Macbooks priced so high. Although it might be lighter, more compact and more portable, affordability would become a strong obstacle for its sale prospect.

Apple makes 11″ netbook become a reality. Apple likes to let impossible become possible. Undoubtedly, Apple has already affected netbook territory. Other brand or clone manufacturers will definitely follow its steps. Many of us would set back when we see Apple’s marked prices and steer to other lower-priced types, right? However, this 11.6″ MacBook Air design improvement is worth of our experiencing.

From the Appearance:

Comparing to the original MacBook Air which was very light on connectivity, current type inherits the rounded nature of its predecessor while adopts more angular surfaces toward the rear of the entire machine. The new MacBook seems have no ports and interfaces if the panel is closed. In fact, nothing is hidden behind. Instead of the old MagSafe , Apple applies a pair of USB ports to make the new look more charming and streamlined. The integrated microphone is another highlight.

From the Inside:

Without traditional mouse button, the glass trackpad of the new Air pivots at the top. As no Optical Drive is available in the present model, OS X Recovery should be via USB Stick. Complete flash memory design as well as modularized SSD has been applied. The navigation time become longer – 11.6″ Air could support up to 5 hours wireless navigation and maximal 30 hours standby. Equipped with FaceTime Camera, the new netbook supports video conversation with iPhone or iPod touch.

Attractive? But the price of 11.6″ MacBook Air Netbook is a huge issue. Multiple other netbooks would become our first consideration as that price might only give us attractive looks, inedible slimness and unmatched solid construction. We choose netbooks not because they have high-end configuration. It is their portability and convenience.

What is the difference between a power strip and a battery backup system? a review of Macbook by :

What is the difference a power strip and a battery backup system?

When most people invest hundreds of dollars on a new computer, they do not realize the need for adequate power strip or HP 530 battery backup system. One of the most common brands in the protection of energy through the use of a power strip or similar APC battery backup system.

A band of power is essentially a surge protector with multiple outlets that allows you to connect electronic devices such as computers, game console, stereo, or television. Products such as the APC power strip is one of the most common on the market to help protect these devices against power surges. The band MacBook Pro Charger or a strip of power on a single manufacturer is most often used to protect personal computers from damage caused by power surges. If an outbreak affescts a computer, it is almost guaranteed to crash your computer running the risk that you may lose all your data and important files.

On the other hand, Dell Latitude D800 battery backup systems as a backup battery APC go beyond your typical bar food. Backup battery-powered systems such as APC battery backup is designed to protect your computer and the electronics of the power of waves as well as brown and black where you lose all power. Some of these products like a battery backup APC have software that allows the computer to recognize these changes in the power and turn off safely before the battery runs out.

When deciding which system best vostro 1520 battery backup for you, be sure to choose wisely. Surge Suppressors Easy as APC power strip are great to help protect simple products and electronics, but if data security is a major concern, it is logical to make the investment in a more robust backup system as a system of APC battery backup. Also, remember to look over your computer system and purchase a battery backup system that can handle the connected equipment. Be warned that if some battery backup systems can cost over $ 100, but investments in the best system backup Latitude E6400 battery is often much cheaper than having to replace a computer, server, or TV.

The new MacBook Pro notebooks – How to resist your iPad 2 craving a review of Macbook by :

The new Pro notebooks – How to resist your 2 craving

I won’t name names, but we have an editor here in the office, who, every time a new Apple product comes out, says he isn’t going to get it. He had the iPhone 3GS and said he was going to wait for the iPhone 5 and not get the iPhone 4. Two weeks later, he had the iPhone 4 and had given his 3GS to his wife.

I said, “Dude, where’s your discipline?”

“I know, I know,” he replied sheepishly. “But I wanted it. I couldn’t resist.”

He’s got an iPad, the original. I know he’s going to get an iPad 2, even though he says he isn’t. How do I know? Because the moment Steve Jobs got up on stage and showed his first slide, he said, “Gee, that looks pretty nice.” He had him at hello.

The iPad 2 Symbol 21-61261-01 battery didn’t look any different from what we expected it to look like–and it didn’t look all that different from the original iPad. But suddenly there on stage in the flesh it had taken on a new, irresistible sheen. Not the Charlie kind of Sheen. Just the Apple kind.

“Dude,” I said, “Buckle down. You’ve got a kid, you live in a small, overpriced New York apartment that you can’t really afford on your editor’s salary. Save your money. You don’t need another iPad.”

“I know, I know,” he muttered again. “But those graphics, the games…” And then he got that I-can-rationalize-this-purchase look in his eyes. It was the look that had sent his older-generation iPhone packing to his wife. Little did she realize she was about to inherit his so-last-year tablet.

I decided there was only one thing to do: tempt him with the future to kill the present temptation. There were other Apple products worth holding out for, I said. Four to be exact. Or four that I could think of anyway.

I offered to write a column about it and put the products in a nice, bullet-pointed list. Like this:

MacBook Air with Intel Sandy Bridge: Sure the iPad 2 is nice, but a lot of Apple lovers have their eyes on the MacBook Air. CNET Editor Dan Ackerman has given the latest-generation Air high marks, saying that despite its limited connectivity options, it’s now “powerful enough to use as a mainstream laptop.” But there are plenty of folks who think the Air’s still a little underpowered and are waiting for it to get a processor upgrade to the Intel Sandy Bridge chips that are now in the new MacBook Pro notebooks.

Sure, some people can afford an iPad 2 Bosch 2 607 335 264 battery and a next-generation Air, but many can’t. And given the choice, if I had an original iPad (which I do), I’d rather take the dough I’d spend on an iPad 2 and apply it toward a next-generation Air, which after all, is a full-fledged machine that supports Flash (yes, truth be told, I’m becoming increasingly irritated that I cannot access Flash content from my iPad).

Of course, the big question is when will Apple upgrade the Air line? It took its time going from gen-1 to gen-2 and I suspect it may be a few months (Brooke Crothers says June), before it gets the performance bump. It’s worth the wait, however.

iPhone 5: In June, Apple is due to roll out its fifth-generation iPhone. Rumors have been all over the map, with some suggesting that multiple models will be available and that we might even see Apple go with a larger 4-inch screen and a design more reminiscent of the iPad 2. Opinion is divided over whether it will have true 4G support or not, but the one thing you can rest assured on is that it will have the new dual-core A5 processor in it.

My fellow editor, who owns the iPhone 4, suggested that if he caved and bought the iPad 2, he wouldn’t get the next iPhone. I told him, “Wouldn’t it be better to wait for the next iPhone before you make that decision?” He grudgingly agreed that I might have a point.

iPad Mini: OK, here’s the product I’m personally holding out for. You can call it what you want: A jumbo iPod Touch, an iPad Nano, an iPad Mini, whatever. It’s basically Apple’s version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab or Barnes & Noble Nook Color. Steve Jobs says going smaller with the iPad has big drawbacks and Apple won’t do it, but the fact is, it makes a lot of sense. Critics of tablets with a 7-inch screens describe them as “tweener” devices, but I actually like the form factor of a 7-inch tablet and I expect we’ll start seeing a lot more Android tablets in such sizes. I also wouldn’t be at all surprised if Apple heads them off at the pass–despite Jobs’ claims to the contrary.

Ideally, of course, such a device, if it were to come into being, would start at 0 (for a 16GB version)–and that’s probably doable for Apple. As for possible launch dates, I’d target this one to coincide with Apple’s launch of its new iPods in September. Just a guess, but with the iPod Panasonic EY9021B battery Touch pretty full-baked (sure, it could use a high-resolution camera and faster processor, but what else?), it might be a good idea to extend that line to include a larger Touch.

iPad 3: I always argue that when it comes to Apple’s mobile products, it’s good idea to skip a generation. For what most people are doing with the iPad (e-mail, Web surfing, reading books, streaming video, and playing games like Angry Birds), you can make do just fine for another year with the original iPad. OK, so you won’t be able to conduct FaceTime video chats, but it’s not the end of the world. You know the next 9.7-inch iPad, which will most likely be released in March 2012, will be thinner, lighter, have a faster process, and a better screen. And you only have to wait 365 days to get it.

Bonus selection: It’s worth noting that Apple will eventually add the iPad 2 to its list of refurbished products. In October of last year, Apple started offering refurbished iPads for off, then dropped the price a bit more in December. Now it’s offering the original 16GB base model for 0 or 0 off its initial price (of course, you can also go the used route on eBay or Amazon).

My nameless colleague probably won’t listen to any of this, of course. In which case I might have to resort to Plan B. Lock him in a room for 24 hours with five Android fanboys. Or at least threaten to lock him in a room with five Android fanboys. That should do the trick.

What do you guys think? Any other upcoming Apple products you’d rather put your money toward instead of an iPad 2? Yeah, I said “Apple products,” but if you’ve got anything else to suggest, I’m game, too.
